Boy Scouts of America: Texas Southwest Council Formerly the Concho Valley Council, the new name more broadly represents the large geographic area the Boy Scouts serve. Many supporters of our local Boy Scout council have created several endowment funds to benefit local scouting efforts. Each fund provides unique support for different aspects of scouting. Fire Fund Created in 2011 after wildfires burned more than 100,000 acres in the Concho Valley. Funds raised continue to help support volunteer fire departments throughout the area.
Randee Fawcett Endowment Fund Established by Randee Fawcett, whose family has a long-standing history of ranching in the Sutton County area. This field of interest endowment seeks to benefit a variety of causes related to agricultural, health care and causes which support a rural way of life, including the Bamberger Ranch Preserve and area agriculture-related and health care scholarships. It also benefits Saint John's Episcopal Church, Dr. Anthony Tolcher's Cancer Therapy research, Sutton County Health Foundation, and other regional charitable causes Randee desired to support. Joseph Wendel Lown (JW Lown) Memorial Fund Created in memory by friends and family, this fund will carry on Joseph’s vision of providing grants for the betterment of humanity for the citizens of San Angelo, Texas, United States of America, and of the citizens of the Municipio of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Such grants would be for Civic projects, edifices, exhibitions, publications, presentations, and events which strengthen bonds of humanity and deepen mutual understanding. Grants may be for practical support for individuals seeking solutions to present-day points of conflict through knowledge of the past, by means of scholarship for formal education, or honorariums for speaking presentations, related travel, or independent research, like PEN International, which Joseph supported via the San Miquel Chapter. Specific examples of Civic projects could include, but not be limited to the maintenance, and propagation of water lilies in the International Water Lily Garden in San Angelo, and scholarships for low-income students (especially first-generation students) seeking a college education in San Angelo or San Miguel de Allende areas.

Grants for Teachers Fund Established in 1986 by the San Angelo Academic Excellence Foundation, the San Angelo Schools Foundation provides scholarships to San Angelo youth. It also funds a variety of enrichment programs for the public schools, including the Grants to Teachers Program, which presents monies directly to teachers to develop new, innovative programs for their classroom or school. Grant applications are taken each fall from SAISD teachers for grants from this fund.

Griffis III and Don Griffis both served in the Marine Corp, with William being killed in action January 24, 1970. Brother Don continued service until his tour of duty was complete and moved back to San Angelo, and celebrating a 50 year legal career. The Fund shall provide grants to support the collection of oral history of Vietnam War Veterans through the history department at Angelo State University.

Michael W. Lehr Memorial Fund
The Michael W. Lehr Scholarship fund has been created to honor Mr. Lehr’s legacy as an educator in the state of Texas by his wife and daughter. Mr. Lehr began his teaching career in 1952 and concluded that career in late 1985, during those 33 years he served as a teacher, coach, principal and administrator for school districts throughout the state. Retirement did not find him sitting idly at home, he joined the Texas Retired Teachers Association and it wasn’t long afterward that he became that organization’s executive director. He received both his undergraduate and graduate degree from McMurry in Abilene, it is for this reason the scholarship has been established to help students hoping to attend a private Christian college or university. Additionally, the fund has been made available to help teachers with resources and supplies – this honors his long career in public education.

Luckenbach Family Memorial Menard Tree Fund Created by friends and family in honor of Jake Landers for his 90th birthday, grandson of Fritz and Anna Nauwald Luckenbach, who settled in Menard in 1888. Anna ran the City Hotel and Fritz was a blacksmith who said there were so many horses in the county or coming through Menard in those days, he had a difficult time keeping shoes on them. He eventually developed a hardware business where he sold everything from nails to windmills.
This fund will provide grants for maintenance of trees located in public spaces in Menard, Texas. Maintenance includes, pruning, removal of dead or diseased trees, as well as planting of new trees. Public spaces would include park lands in the City of Menard, the County of Menard and the Menard County Underground Water District which includes an irrigation canal known sometimes as “The Ditch”.

Emma Lee Moss Public Art & Suicide Awareness Fund Created in memory of Emma Lee Dunlop Moss-Horne. She began painting in Tenessee in the 1950's using paints that belonged to her employer's children. She stopped painting to care for her husband during his prolonged final illness. After his death, she remarried and moved to San Angelo in 1984 where she resumed painting until a stroke ended her artistic creations in 1990. Her work, which exemplifies a simplistic self-taught style is now owned and exhibited throughout the nation. This Fund provides for grants to showcase local public art, led by Art in Uncommon Places, and suicide awareness efforts, led by West Texas Guidance and Counseling.

Anna Gretchen Noelke Endowment Fund Native of Menard and descendant of Menard County founders Noelke and Wilhelm families, Gretchen Noelke created this fund to provide for a wide array of grants for organizations in Menard and the surrounding area including those promoting economic development, stewardship of water resources, higher education, humane treatment of animals, assisting with food and nutrition, residential foster care and her extended church families. The Foundation will entertain grant requests from time to time for these and similar fields of interest Gretchen sought to support.

The basic focus for "Water for All" is working directly with poor families, equipping them to inexpensively drill their own wells, make and maintain their own pumps, and for the first time for many of them have the opportunity for farming and income. The Wesley Soup Kitchen provides a quality meal to area persons who might not be able to eat otherwise. Established in 1984, the soup kitchen has served thousands. The "Daily Bread Soup Lunch Program" feeds an average of 100 folks from 11:00am to 1:00pm 365 days a year. This fund will provide perpetual financial assistance to the program for purchases of food.
West Texas Boys Ranch Foundation Funds Established in 1947, the West Texas Boys Ranch is a Christian-based home community that welcomes boys in need of a safe environment in which to grow and learn. Multiple donors created several funds, which are managed by the Foundation. These include a scholarship fund, a fund to provide support for the ranch animals, a permanent endowment fund, and a general support fund.
